Premiere Marketing Packages Now Available

December 12, 2014  |  General  |  No Comments  |  Share

When starting this blog back in October 2013 I had one goal in mind. To help hip hop artists become more knowledgeable in the business and marketing side of music. After working with hundreds of independent artists all over the country I saw 9 out of 10 know nothing about marketing and promoting themselves like a real business. I talk about this a lot throughout this blog. Little did I know this website would grow to reach roughly 1,500 people each month searching online for help and advice on marketing themselves and their music. Each week I receive a few emails from dedicated musicians that really want to learn more and grow. They understand enough to search online for marketing help which is a big plus. They at least recognize that marketing is just as important (or probably even more important) than rapping or singing itself. Due to my busy schedule I sometimes just don't...

First impression matters: How To Create New Fans With Your Mixtape Cover

March 18, 2014  |  Uncategorized  |  No Comments  |  Share

According to research done by psychologists at Princeton University, it only takes people 1/10th of a second for them to create a first impression about you. Research also stated in another study it takes people 50 miliseconds (which is 0.05 seconds) to determine whether they like you or not and in your case whether to listen to your music or not. Your mixtape cover is the first image people see of you. It represents your whole image and music. It tells people a visual story about you without having to listen to your music. A good professional mixtape cover will lead people into listening to your music. A bad mixtape cover will do the opposite. It will make people judge your music even before listening to it. People won't get past the cover art.   You goal with your mixtape is to have someone listen to your music right? You want people to download it, buy...

How To Build A Fan Base for Rappers

February 17, 2014  |  Uncategorized  |  No Comments  |  Share

If Your A Rapper Read This. 99% Of Rappers Fail: At Making Any Money Selling Their Music. Fail At Getting Signed & Fail At Reaching Fans Worldwide.   Why do so many rappers fail? Is it because they suck at rapping? Not necessarily.   How many mainstream rappers do you hear on the radio that are flat out terrible? Birdman? Nicki Minaj? Soulja Boy? This is proof that you don't have to be the best rapper to make it big. So scratch that.   Then why do so many fail? "Like most things in the music industry, your chances of success are part talent, part endurance, part hype, and part luck."   One main reason many rappers fail is due to the lack of business knowledge they don't have.     Or to be more specific, the lack of marketing knowledge and skill they don't have.  Talent (or rapping) is one side but learning the business side is the other.   Knowing how to sell, market and promote...

Learn how to use hashtags the right way that will increase your followers, friends, retweets and likes!   You see hashtags used by people in their posts every time you login to Facebook or Twitter. Hashtags when used incorrectly are annoying to see. While many people (including you probably) think hashtags are stupid they can be used correctly to your advantage.   I see this constantly on my Facebook wall and my Twitter timeline from artists and rappers incorrectly using hashtags in their posts. And it's very annoying especially when someone hashtags every word even made up words that do not make sense.   First let me go over with you what hashtags are. I'm sure 99% of you have seen people use them before so I won't go into extreme detail on what they are. Hashtags are words that help categorize your tweet, photo or posts by placing a "#" sign in front of a word...

How To Build An Effective Website For Rappers

How To Build An Effective Website For Rappers

June 20, 2013  |  General  |  No Comments  |  Share

In this article you'll learn some helpful tips on building a website directed mainly toward hip hop rappers. Many artists I've dealt with don't really have a clue on what an effective website needs to have. Many websites are built on what web designers give them. However web designers are just that -- designers. They're job as a designer is only to make the site look pretty. This can lead to an ineffective website that doesn't do anything helpful toward the artists. They aren't marketers. They don't know marketing strategies that help your website work in your favor and don't know what an artist needs.  If you are a hip hop rapper and plan on building a website consider these helpful tips to help open your mind on what you need to know in the field of online web marketing. Many of these strategies can be easily applied to help grow...

How To Get A Barcode For Your Album

How To Get A Barcode For Your Album

June 16, 2013  |  General  |  No Comments  |  Share

In order to sell your music online anywhere including iTunes (even brick and mortar retail stores) you'll need a barcode. A barcode fee will cost roughly $20-$50 depending on where you buy it. You may have heard that owning your own barcode will cost $750. This is true ONLY if you plan on registering a UPC number as your own company. But it's not needed especially for an indi artist. You want to budget your money correctly and not spend where it's not needed. CD baby is a great service that sells barcodes for a $20 an album or $5 a single.  http://members.cdbaby.com/barcode-for-music.aspx A barcode will allow your sales to be tracked by Nielsen Soundscan every week.  A barcode when assigned to you will allow you to sell music not just by the provider by anywhere. If you don't have one yet for your label. Consider getting one today. For the price of...

Learning The Business Side of Music

Learning The Business Side of Music

June 14, 2013  |  General  |  No Comments  |  Share

After working with thousands of independent hip hop artists over the past few years I started noticing something they all had in common. The lack of basic business knowledge in music. Many thought just because they could "rap" they had what it takes to make it big. They would go into the studio, record tracks, put out a CD or mixtape and BAM! That was it. Yea, we're going to sell a million copies... Get booked for shows and concerts easy after people would hear our music... And make a million dollars selling cd's.... The beginning of their music career was about to take off. But... nothing happened? Why? So many places to start....many burned their money, had no budget, had no goal, no direction, had no real business knowledge to marketing and promoting their music. Many put out music with no real goal. No direction. They don't look at it like a real business. From working...
